What Are Traditional Crowns?

Traditional crowns are usually completed over two visits to the dentist. On the first visit, X-rays will be taken to evaluate the condition of your teeth. Decay will be removed, and your dentist will determine if a root canal is necessary. After that, your tooth will be filed to make room for a crown to be attached to it. An impression of your teeth will be made to ensure a proper fit of the crown and that your bite is unaffected. That impression is sent off to a lab to create your crown, which can be made of ceramic, metal, or a combination of the two. It typically takes a few weeks for crowns to come in. You will receive a temporary crown until the permanent one is ready. Traditional crowns take a while because they are handmade.

What Are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns are similar to traditional crowns, and both types even use the same procedures. What’s different is in the creation of the crown. A special device takes photos of your teeth, and then a computer creates a 3D model. Your crown is made right in our dental office and then cemented in place. All it takes is one visit, and you can have your permanent crown in two hours.

How Are Dental Crowns Made?

Traditional crowns are made by using a conventional impression that is sent to a dental lab. Same day crowns can be made instantly at our dental office in Parker, CO.

What’s the Difference Between Caps & Crowns?
